Amanda’s hands are the tools with which she creates unique, beautiful handmade jewelry through which she remembers her hometown of Trinidad and Tobago. OCT. 2013 CALENDAR: Studio PAUSE Theme for Sept-Oct 2013 is Black And White And…
Opening reception Friday 10/4, 6 pm – 8 pm.
Black & White … And Absence. Photographs by Kenneth Marti.
Ken Marti works for the DHHS. Most days, he misses people, sounds and flavors from his childhood, as well as those moments when thoughts go missing and words linger on the tip of his tongue. His camera is a companion, and together they make images of things that are missing, or of his feelings of missing someone or something. It is an overexposed and dysfunctional relationship, most of the time.

Saturday 10/19, 5 pm – 7 pm
Community PAUSE: Black And White And Life And Death Meet some everyday people from the community who share how they use the arts—poetry, photography, music, food, and stories to deal with death and celebrate life. And how these traditions are different all over the world.
Ken Marti shares his photos of dealing with cancer in the family. Hear from retired army Staff Sgt. Charles “Chaz” Allen who lost both legs when he stepped on a land mine in Afghanistan. Shabnam Samuel talks about writing poetry on her blog to help her—and hopefully others—deal with death. Listen to a short story about a young man on a train sketching the hands of an older man, which really happened to writer Terence Kuch. And learn how Colleen Moore takes painful real-life events and turns them into fiction. Plus, Studio owner Sushmita Mazumdar celebrates two lives, recently lost, one with a musical tribute and another through food. And more… Event is free and light refreshments will be served.
