Join us in a celebration of the art of students from Carlin Springs Elementary School in this pop-up exhibit. Put on by art teachers Girasol O’Neill and Martha Rose, the exhibit showcases how they use the book arts in their classrooms to allow for the students to express their stories.
Girasol O’Neill participated in the Studio PAUSE on Columbia Pike inaugural exhibit, “Me, Here: Stories of People & Place” as told by the Studio PAUSE Community. It was also his first year working as an art teacher in Arlington Public Schools. However, Sol has been part of the Studio community for many years, learning from us and teaching us as well. When he wanted to share the art of his students at the new Studio location—because families could get to the celebration here easily—it was a win-win! The story has another amazing layer—Sol attended Carlin Springs Elementary School as a child so it’s with great joy that he returns there to teach.
As a self-taught book artist who has worked with families for 17 years, I am so happy to see how art teachers have been teaching this fun way for students to tell their stories. Thanks to Mr. Sol and Ms. Rose, who also teaches art at Carlin Springs Elementary School, for setting up this show and sharing their work and that of their students with the community! ~ Sushmita Mazumdar
